DHL extends relationship with Volkswagen [Integrator]

Major business win for DHL Supply Chain in Slovakia
In-plant logistics for Porsche Cayenne, Audi Q7, VW Touareg

DHL has convinced Volkswagen due to its innovative concepts and an exactly tailored supply chain solution.
DHL Supply Chain - the specialist for contract logistics within the Deutsche Post DHL Group - and the automobile manufacturer Volkswagen are stepping up their long-standing cooperation with a five-year contract valid as of 1 April 2010.

Under the contract, DHL Supply Chain will provide a major part of the in-plant logistics for the Volkswagen assembly plant in Bratislava, Slovakia. DHL was awarded the business following a competitive international tender process.

Some 800 DHL employees will manage in-plant logistics for 50 % of the production materials of the models produced by the Volkswagen Group in Slovakia's capital. This involves engines, gearboxes and windscreens for the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg. Services provided will include inbound receiving, put away and storage, picking and kitting, sequencing and line-side deliveries directly to the Volkswagen production lines.

"Our industry-specific approach to logistics enables us to provide worldwide support to demanding automotive customers such as Volkswagen. In this sector in particular, consistently high quality and a considerable measure of innovative ability are essential. We can deliver both," explains Ilhami Arslanoglu, Vice President Sub Industry Sector Automotive DHL Global Customer Solutions, who is managing the relationship with Volkswagen.

Considerable automotive expertise
DHL Supply Chain's operational presence in Slovakia and the overall strength of the Deutsche Post DHL Group were key to achieving this business win. Many years of partnership between DHL and automotive manufacturers and suppliers have endowed DHL with considerable automotive expertise. In combination with efficient logistics concepts, this offers customers a sustainable competitive edge.

"Logistics are essential in vehicle manufacturing. DHL has convinced us due to its innovative concepts and a supply chain solution tailored exactly to our needs," says Juraj Janá?, Head of Logistics with Volkswagen in Bratislava.

Pavel Hendrych, Managing Director DHL Supply Chain Slovakia: "I'm confident that our team will work very closely with VW to improve even the smallest details in this package. Our strong presence on the ground and DHL's experience in the automotive sector will provide a clear added value to the customer."
